Eleanora Ann Cherico (Mayer) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday evening, October 23, 2018 while in her long time Tyaskin home with her son Chuck Mayer at her side.
Eleanora, affectionately known as Miss Ellie, was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Christina (Ficcio) and Antonio Cherico; her 7 siblings Jennie Madora, Mary Perez, Jeanette Botsford, Louis Cherico, Gabriel Cherico, Vincent Cherico and Joseph Cherico.
She is survived by her son Chuck, his loving wife Pamela, and Ellie’s two grandchildren Matthew and Morgan who were the loves of her life and many nieces and nephews that she cared very deeply for.
Ellie grew up in “Little Italy” in Wilmington Delaware and later in Elsmere Gardens where she walked to and from work at the Veterans Administration hospital for 30 years. Pursuing her love of nature and beaches, after retirement Ellie moved from Elsmere Gardens, to Bethany Beach, then to Lewes, and eventually settled in Tyaskin, MD along the Nanticoke River.
Her favorite poem was "Footprints". She found a small stone replica of a foot while beach combing and it was one of her most treasured keepsakes. As the Footprints poem illustrates, Ellie felt that through her many adventures of life, her Heavenly Father carried her through all of them.
A celebration of Ellie’s life will be held at a future time.
