Obituary of Brian Gordon

Brian (age 77) died at home on December 29, 2019 after being incapacitated by a stroke in June 2017. He was born in Ely, MN and raised in Two Harbors, MN. Two Harbors is a beautiful little town nestled on the north shore of Lake Superior. He graduated from Two Harbors High in 1960. Attended University of MN at Duluth then transferred to Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. In 1963 he joined the United States Air Force and served 5 years in Wiesbaden Germany. After being discharged from the U.S. Air force he obtained a job with the Defense Intelligence Agency (Department of Defense) in Washington D.C. using the analytical skills he had learned during his tour of duty. His first job was as a Photo Interpreter. Looking at photos of the earth and trying to find “hot spots” around the world where our adversaries may be setting up bases or weapons. Brian had a long career working for both the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency on many important programs. His last years were spent briefing the heads of the various Military Forces on the best use of the LANDSAT Program which was the beginnings of using Satellite Photography to our advantage. Brian retired in 1994 after 25 years of service. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland, University College and his Master’s Degree from Auburn University. He also attended the Air War College, Class of 77, in Montgomery Alabama. In1969 he married Karen J. Brady (formerly of Woburn, MA). They made their home in Northern Virginia. Their last residence was in Montclair, located in Dumfries, Virginia. Their two Children Jennie and Scott were raised there. In 2000 they moved to Fenwick Island, Delaware where they have lived ever since. Brian leaves behind his wife Karen of 50 years, daughter Jennie M. Doran and her husband Edward P. (Ted) Doran III, grandchildren Kelly age 12 and Teddy IV age 8. Brother Stephen Gordon of Two Harbors, MN, niece Steph Gordon-Pinske of Two Harbors and nephew Peter Gordon of Woodbury, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard “Bing” Gordon and Margorie Hessen Gordon and his son Scott Charles Gordon. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, 2 p.m., at St. Paul’s by-the-sea Episcopal Church, 302 N Baltimore Avenue; Ocean City, MD 21842, tel # 410-289-3453, www.stpaulsbythesea.org At a later date (TBD) we will hold a Celebration of Life in Alexandria, Virginia and Two Harbors, Minnesota.
