Jean Beattie Shepherd, of Berlin, MD, beloved wife and mother died on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Chesapeake Manor, Willards, MD after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Jean was born in Providence, RI on August 1, 1936 and was 83 when she passed away. She attended Classical High School in Providence and then enrolled at Boston University, graduating in 1956. She had a very full and varied life with interests in writing, which included writing a weekly humor column for the newspaper in Ridgewood, NJ for which she was the Managing Editor for a number of years. She also was an avid cook, played tennis and golf, was the member of a book club and loved to travel having visited over 25 countries around the world.
Jean’s parents were the late Malcolm and Doris Beattie of Little Compton, RI. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Don, and four children, Kevin and his partner Cindy, Scott and his wife Julie, Kristin and her husband Rich and Peter and seven grandchildren, Greta, Hannah, Katie, Stephanie, Kyle, Malcolm and Owen. She is also survived by her sister Joan Walker of Cape Cod, MA.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held locally at a date to be determined.
